At the meeting of the council’s Executive Board on 21 September 2016 the decision was made to proceed with the proposal to increase the permanent admission number for Shakespeare Primary School from 45 to 90 from September 2018 increasing the overall capacity of the school from 315 to 630. This expansion involves a relocation of the primary school to the Dolly Lane site, former Primrose High School.  Linked to this is a proposal to expand secondary places at The Co-operative Academy of Leeds from a capacity of 900 students to 1,200 students with an increase in the admissions number from 180 to 240 with effect from September 2019.

Shakespeare Primary School and The Co-Operative Academy of Leeds-statutory proposal and notice period

At its meeting on 22 June 2016, Leeds City Council’s Executive Board approved the publication of a Statutory Notice relating to the linked proposal to expand and relocate Shakespeare Primary School and to expand The Co-Operative Academy of Leeds.

A formal proposal has now been published. This is known as a statutory notice, which is published at the start of a period during which representations can be made to the local authority. The statutory notice period runs from 5 July 2016 to 4pm on 2 August 2016.

The proposal is to expand primary places at Shakespeare Primary School from a capacity of 315 pupils to 630 pupils with an increase in the admission number from 45 to 90 with effect from September 2018, which will involve the relocation of Shakespeare Primary School onto the Dolly Lane site; and

to expand secondary places at The Co-operative Academy of Leeds from a capacity of 900 students to 1,200 students, with an increase in the admissions number from 180 to 240 with effect from September 2019.

Consultation on increasing primary and secondary school places in Burmantofts

Leeds City Council are consulting on increasing both primary and secondary school places in Burmantofts due to increased birth rates and the high numbers of children now living in the area.

We are seeking your views on the following proposals:

  • To move Shakespeare Primary School to a new, larger building on Dolly Lane (former Primrose High site) from September 2018.
  • To increase primary places at Shakespeare Primary School from a capacity of 315 to 630 pupils and to increase the admission limit in reception from 45 to 90 pupils from September 2018.
  • To increase secondary places at The Co-operative Academy Leeds from a capacity of 900 to 1,200 pupils and to increase the admission limit in Year 7 from 180 to 240 pupils from September 2019

This consultation will run from Monday 29 February 2016 to Friday 25 March 2016 at 4pm and during this time there will be drop-in sessions at both schools where you can have your say or find out more. The drop-in sessions will be held as follows:

Tuesday 1 March, 3:30– 6:00pm at The Co-operative Academy Leeds

Friday 11 March, 8:30- 9:30am at Shakespeare Primary School

Friday 11 March,11am-12:00pm at The Co-operative Academy Leeds

Tuesday 15 March, 3:00 – 7:00pm at Shakespeare Primary School
